FRECUENT ASKED QUESTIONS
Be Ready for Mosquitoes in Paradise
Even in paradise, we sometimes share this beautiful place with a few mosquitoes. To make your stay as comfortable as possible, we recommend bringing a reliable insect repellent.
For both skin and environmental protection, consider choosing a natural or eco-friendly repellent. Recommended brands include:
- Citronella-based repellents
- Badger Anti-Bug
- Murphy’s Naturals
Applying it during sunrise and sunset is especially effective, as this is when mosquitoes are most active. Being prepared will make all the difference in fully enjoying your stay!
Bring plenty of the highest SPF you can find—we mean a lot! (Not that 60’s tanning oil!) Something for after sun or aloe is also recommended.
Sorry, folks, bringing your own liquor is not allowed. That’s why we have our “Bar on the Water” with refreshing cocktails, beer, and more.
Relax, grab your favorite drink, and let the Caribbean set the stage for an unforgettable experience.
Disconnect to Reconnect
We encourage you to spend a few days away from screens. This is your chance to embrace the moment:
- Take in the stunning views of the Caribbean.
- Dive into a good book.
- Cool off with an ice-cold beer.
- Or sharpen your social skills and make new friends.
Discover the magic of unplugging from the digital world to truly connect with yourself and those around you.
We love kids, and there are many local children around on the nearby islands. However, the House is simply not a safe place for them.
Right in the heart of glorious Mother Nature. We kindly ask that, as our guest, you help us preserve our little piece of paradise by recycling, conserving water, and more.
Sustainability at the Heart of the Caribbean
At Casa en el Agua, we operate primarily on solar energy, which means our electricity hours are precious and limited. Power is available from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., so we kindly ask you to be mindful of your energy use, just as we are.
While there are no charging points in the rooms, we do provide a 24-hour charging station near the reception, allowing you to charge your devices at any time during your stay.
Please ensure you charge all essentials before arriving and take this opportunity to embrace a more sustainable experience in harmony with nature.
Eco means composting, which is why at Casa en el Agua we use dry toilets (composting latrines). Our system is simple and sustainable:
- #1: Urinate in the hole labeled #1, where the vast blue sea takes care of the rest.
- #2: For solid waste, use the hole labeled #2 and cover it with a mixture of lime and sawdust—our “magic mix.”
The waste is collected daily and transported to Tintipán Island, where it is composted and transformed into fertilizer, completing the cycle in an environmentally friendly way.
Thank you for helping us maintain this ecological system and preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us!
Support the Local Community
As you might imagine, many of the local fishermen who supply the fresh seafood on your plate don’t have bank accounts. That’s why we kindly ask you to bring enough cash (Colombian Pesos) to facilitate payments and directly support our community.
However, if you run short on cash, we also offer a card payment option. Please note that this option may include additional fees for electronic transactions.
Thank you for helping us sustain this local support system while enjoying the freshest seafood in the Caribbean!
While the days are usually hot, nights by the sea can get chilly. We recommend packing something warm for the evenings, alongside your Brazilian bikini or snug speedos. Comfort doesn’t have to mean sacrificing style!
Travel Light for a Better Experience
While our Casa en el Agua isn’t a sprawling mansion, the luggage restriction is not just about limited space. The transportation company handling the transfers also enforces a weight limit for operational and safety reasons. For this reason, we recommend bringing a maximum of 8 kilos per person.
Leave your hefty Louis V. or oversized backpack on the mainland and pack only the essentials to fully enjoy your stay. Traveling light not only makes your journey smoother but also contributes to a more practical and sustainable experience.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping everyone enjoy this floating paradise.
